A 32-year-old jawan died after falling into a 70-feet-deep gorge following a landslide in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
"In an unfortunate incident on November 6 (yesterday), Indian Army lost a brave soldier when Sepoy Manjit Singh hailing from Village Bhatuna of Thathri tehsil in Doda District sustained critical injuries while performing sentry duty as he fell down 70 feet (into a gorge) due to a land slide while on operational duty at a remote post," Defence Spokesman said.
Singh later succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital, he said, adding that the soldier is survived by his wife, a three-year-old son and a five-month-old daughter.
The Army paid homage to Singh with full military honours in the presence of officials of military and civil administration that include General Officer Commanding, Delta Force and District Commissioner, Ramban.
All ranks of Dharmund Garrison joined in to bid farewell to him, Spokesman said.
In his condolence message, General Officer Commanding, Delta Force said that the Army is proud of the sacrifice of the brave soldier and assumes full responsibility for ensuring best possible lifelong care and concern for the bereaved family as per the traditions of the Indian Army, he said.
