Launching the scheme "Amma Magapperu Sanjeevi" in a simple function at the Secretariat here, she distributed packs of herbal medicines to five pregnant women, an official release said.
'Sanjeevi' means panacea in Tamil and the scheme is aimed at strenghtening the immune system and thereby improving the overall health of pregnant women.
Today's launch is a follow up to Jayalalithaa's announcement in the assembly on August 25 last year of a slew of health schemes.
The Jayalalithaa government has launched a series of schemes under the "Amma" brand such as low-cost eateries "Amma unavagams", "Amma salt" and "Amma drinking water".
