JD(U) MP and former party president Sharad Yadav today criticised the Union Budget dubbing it "direction-less" even as he attacked the government for not waiving off loans of farmers who are "reeling under financial problems".
"It is completely a political budget and direction-less. Farmers have been reeling under lot of financial problems but no relief has been given to them. Their loans should have been waived off," he said in a statement.
He claimed that demonetisation has badly affected economy and the Economic Survey and that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's budget speech conceded it.
Jobs have been lost both in unorganised and organised sectors following the note ban but no mention about it was made in the Budget, he said.
Yadav also took a dig at the government over increasing allocation to MNREGA, saying it used to make fun of the job guarantee scheme.
"Income to the tune of Rs 5 lakh per year should have been made tax free. The concession given is peanuts... Emphasis on construction of roads and infrastructure has been laid, but in fact contractors have said assets are virtually NPAs of different banks. I do not think pace of infrastructure construction will increase as claimed by Jaitley," he said.
