Four-time winner on European Tour, Jeev Milkha Singh, will be one of the stars at inaugural Hero Challenge, a unique electric paced one-hole knockout on the eve of the British Masters.
Jeev will join seven others, including former World No. 1 Luke Donald, in an innovation which seeks to bring more fans to the golf courses.
Interestingly, Jeev's first European Tour win on European soil came exactly 10 years ago in 2006 and one of the players he pushed out into the second place was Donald, who is the tournament host this week.
"I have known all these guys on the European Tour for so long and have enjoyed my membership and playing here. It is great to see the introduction of new formats, innovations into our sport to attract greater audiences. Of course the main event still has the traditional strokeplay and matchplay formats, but these fast-paced additions bring in a lot of excitement," said Jeev, who after 22 years on pro circuit, is a star in Indian golf with more than 20 wins around the world.
The Hero Challenge to be held at the lovely setting at The Grove in Hertfordshire, where the main tournament will be played from Thursday.
Apart from former World No.1 Donald and Jeev, the others are Ryder Cup player Andy Sullivan, Andrew Johnston, in-form Swede Alex Noren, US Open runner-up Shane Lowry, multiple European Tour winners Bernd Wiesberger and Alex Levy.
The four professional winners from the four opening round matches will progress through to two semi-finals with the subsequent two winners contesting a final head-to-head match to decide the first Hero Challenge champion at a specially constructed par three on The Grove's 18th hole.
If the two opponents halve the hole, the outcome of that contest will be decided by the tee shot, which was nearest to the pin.
There will also be a special one-hole celebrity shootout featuring cricketing stars, Shane Warne and Kevin Pietersen and TV personality Piers Morgan and singer Brian McFadden.
