Union Minister Srikant Kumar Jena had slammed the Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government for claiming credit for achievements in the Centre-funded projects in the state.
"It's the Congress that has laid the foundation of development in Gujarat. No other political party, no individual, has done the kind development work the Congress has done in Gujarat. But some people, who tend to look negatively at whatever we do, try to take false credit for the development of Gujarat. Why don't they tell people the truth?" Jena told PTI here last night.
"Gujarat's true development is Congress' vow," he said, adding that the development will be from every level and every class of society.
The Congress has been inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to create a new Gujarat. And we will definitely create it, said Jena, the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers (Independent charge).
Congress leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Patel, among others played a significant role in the progress of Gujarat, said the minister, who was in the city for a function organised by the city unit of the Congress party to mark its 129th anniversary.
He said the Centre has supported projects related to poverty alleviation, employment generation, housing education, family welfare and health, protection of environment and other schemes having a bearing on the quality of life especially in the rural areas.
