Someone rang up the shop owner, identified as Amal Dutta, in the afternoon saying the shop is now closed but he wanted to buy jewellery.
So Dutta came to his shop at Garbeta market from where his body was later found with the throat slit and hands and legs tied, police said.
The shutter of the shop was down when the body was discovered and investigation is on to find out how much jewellery has been looted.
The blockade paralysed road traffic in the area as a large number of vehicles got stranded on both sides of the road.
