JGU conferred 'Diamond' rating by QS I-Gauge

The UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a higher education rating project, has awarded O P Jindal Global University (JGU) the Diamond rating in recognition of the varsity's various parameters including teaching quality and employability of its students.

Besides awarding JGU with an overall rating, QS I-GAUGE has also given the varsity, the highest ratings in six areas--teaching and learning, employability, facilities, social responsibility, accreditation and entrepreneurship.

However, it got "Gold" in faculty quality and "Silver" in research.

Ashwin Fernandes, the CEO of QS IGAUGE and Regional Director for QS in South Asia, said in a release that the varsity's ranking in the QS BRICS University Rankings 2018 followed by the QS IGAUGE Diamond rating is noteworthy.

"The JGU is an example of how effective a young institution can be, if done right. The generous philanthropic contribution that established JGU and its academic and institutional leadership are stellar examples of what is possible in higher education in India if pursued with the objective of promoting excellence, he said.

The rating awarded to JGU is valid for three years, after which it is subject to a re-audit as per an updated methodology at that time.

C Raj Kumar, the Vice Chancellor of JGU, said that the paradigm shift in the Indian higher education system is being promoted through efforts to create world class universities in both the public and the private sector.

"We have launched various initiatives to improve the quality of research at JGU. At present our focus is to further lower the faculty and student ratio from the current 1:30. We plan to increase research grants and reward faculty members for their published research work," Kumar, said.
