Jharkhand People's Party (JPP) today revoked its earlier decision to contest all the parliamentary and assembly seats in Jharkhand in the forthcoming polls and instead decided to support Arvind Kejriwal-headed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
A decision in this regard was taken at the party's Central Committee meeting held here yesterday, Surya Singh Besra, president of JPP, announced in presence of AAP's Jharkhand Observer, Shailendra Singh.
Besra said JPP's decision came after its leadership met with AAP, which has even offered JPP to merge into it, recently.
At present, no decision was taken to merge JPP into AAP as it wanted to maintain its political identity, Besra said, adding that JPP will support AAP in Lok Sabha election with the sole intention to change the prevailing system and provide a corruption-free government.
JPP leadership will actively campaign and support AAP in all the 14 parliamentary seats in Jharkhand, Besra said.
Shailendra Singh said he was currently touring Jharkhand to identify candidates with immaculate image for the forthcoming general election.
"I have already covered six parliamentary constituencies and would cover remaining seats in next few days," Singh said, claiming that the major criteria for selection was that the candidate should be a clean image.
Asked when the party would announce the list of candidates for the forthcoming polls, Singh said he would submit a report to central party leadership after identifying the candidates to take a call in this regard.
Singh, however, assured that the list of candidates will be announced well in advance before the polls, which was to be held in April-May.
Singh clarified that AAP would not forge alliance with any political party, including JPP, and welcomes any party, if it was willing to merge.
