Jharkhand to send another batch of farmers to Israel on Sunday

The Jharkhand government will be sending a second batch of farmers to Israel on Sunday to acquaint them with the latest farm techniques adopted by the middle eastern country.

According to Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Department, Ajaynath Jha, the second batch of 21 farmers will be leaving on October 28 and return on November 1.

Addressing the farmers before their departure, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said Israel has excelled in adopting cost effective farm techniques and the purpose of the tour was to learn about the modern methods and replicate them in Jharkhand.

He said the farmers touring Israel will also train other farmers in the state.

In August this year, the Jharkhand government had sent 26 farmers to Israel to learn new farming techniques. During the four day trip, the farmers visited dairy farms, production units of fruits and vegetables and learnt about functioning of drip irrigation.

Das said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set 2022 as the goal for doubling the income of the farmers and there was a necessity to promote horticulture, milk production, pisciculture, fruit, vegetable production along with agriculture, Das said.

"A large quantity of vegetables is produced in Jharkhand. There is a demand for organic vegetables in the gulf countries. The government is enabling market for farmers, for whom 'Global Agriculture and Food Summit (in November) is being organised and the farmers will get to know about new technology and market," Das said.

The chief minister asked the farmers to set up co-operatives in their respective areas and the government will provide subsidized tools, animals and other necessary things.
