Parson's poker-faced act of a theoretical physicist on the sitcom beat actors Matt LeBlanc ('Episodes'), Don Cheadle ('House of Lies'), Louis CK ('Louie'), William H Macy ('Shameless') and Ricky Gervais ('Derek') to bag the trophy.
The 41-year-old actor thanked his fellow nominees and noted how different all of their performances are.
"To say that I watch your work and I feel inspired is a bit of an understatement. I watch you work and see you people doing things I couldn't do... That I wouldn't do...
He went on to thank his father, Mickey Parsons, for encouraging him to be an actor.
"In a career that hinges so much on confidence, that really was a great gift," said the actor, whose 'The Normal Heart' won the best TV movie award.
The upcoming eighth season of 'The Big Bang Theory', which debuted in 2007, will premiere on September 22 this year.
