The state cabinet which met here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti approved the setting up of a Monitoring Committee to look into the dredging of River Jhelum, an official spokesman said.
The committee headed by the chief minister will comprise deputy chief minister and the state ministers for PHE-I&FC and education as the members, he said.
Despite facing the devastating floods in 2014, the department of Irrigation and Flood control has not been able to meet the target laid down by the state government for dredging of Jhelum from Anantnag to Baramulla.
