JK govt to promote heritage schools as 'centres of excellence'

The Jammu and Kashmir government will promote heritage schools as "centres of excellence" with multifaceted activities to ensure maximum enrollment of students, Education Minister Naeem Akhtar has said.
"The idea is to revive time-tested excellence of these institutions and attract maximum enrollment of students by offering best facilities in the form of highly proficient faculty and modern teaching infrastructure," he said today.
The revival plan envisages a slew of structural and administrative reforms directed towards best usage of the infrastructure and tools of modern education available in form of smart classrooms, computer labs, well-established labs for various streams and libraries, and and above all experienced and expert faculty on all subjects.

He rolled out the plan at a meeting convened to review the performance of heritage Ranbir Higher Secondary School.
Ranbir Higher Secondary School in Jammu was asked to use social media to project achievements and facilities to enhance enrollment.
The minister also directed the Director of School Education (Jammu) to make a promo (short documentary) on high-end facilities and huge building infrastructure of the school and show it on TV channels.

"Publicity is must to compete with private schools. Once done, people will come to know that this school has far better facilities than any other school in the city," he said.

It was also decided that the school would host a mega alumni meet and invite outstanding alumnus to interact with school students and civil society.
The minister asked the school management and the Director of School Education to take steps to upgrade it and include more diversified activities.
