JK Legislature passes Bill for state's first Nat Law varsity

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today passed a Bill for the establishment of a National Law University in the state.
The Bill was introduced in the House by Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq.
He said the proposed university, a first for the state, would boost the quality of legal education.
Haq said it had been resolved in the All India Law Ministers' Conference at the National Law School University at Bangalore to improve the quality of legal education.
He said various states had already enacted a law for establishment of a National Law University.

Several members including Devender Singh Rana, Pawan Kumar Gupta, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Nawang Rigzin Jora, and Aijaz Ahmad Khan suggested referring the Bill to a select committee for further debate and discussion while others like R S Pathania and Shah Mohammad Tantray supported the legislation.
The Bill was later also passed by the Upper House also.
