"In order to stop misuse of red flash lights (beacons), Traffic City Srinagar has launched a special drive to prevent the misuse and un-authorised use of these lights. The drive will continue till these lights are removed from all vehicles which are not authorised to use them," a police spokesman said.
According to various orders issued from time to time, Governor, Chief Minister, Speaker of the Assembly, Chairman of the Legislative Council, Chief Justice of High Court, Cabinet ministers, ministers of state and those with equivalent ranks, High Court Judges, Chief Secretary, DGP, Financial Commissioners, Principal Secretaries, IGP of the concerned zone, DIG of the concerned range, District Magistrate and SPs are among the few persons allowed the use of red beacons.
