Opposition JMM serves ultimatum to Raghubar Das govt in Jharkhand

Main opposition party in Jharkhand assembly, JMM today served an ultimatum to the Raghubar Das government to ensure functioning of the two trauma centres set up in the state years ago including one in Baharagora in East Singhbhum district by April 15.

Otherwise it would be forced to block national highway 33, the Morcha threatened.

Aimed to provide immediate medical aid to the road accidents victims on highways, the two trauma centres at Barhi (Hazaribagh) and Baharagora (East Singhbhum distirct) were developed in 2008 and both the centres lying idle ever since, JMM MLA from Baharagora, Kunal Sarangi said.

During the recent budget session of the assembly, the chief minister announced to establish one dozen more trauma centres across the state even though the two centres already set up at Barhi and Baharagora eight years remained non-functional till date, Kunal said.

The centres were aimed to attend the road accident victims on National Highways.

The foundation of the Baharagora trauma centre was laid down by Kunal's father Dr. Dinesh Sarangi when he was the Jharkhand Health Minister in 2008 and inaugurated by the then JMM MLA of the constituency Bidyut Baran Mahato, who is now the BJP Member of Parliament from Jamshedpur parliamentary segment, in 2011, he said.

The centre was inaugurated thrice in the past but it remained non-functional literally till date, the JMM MLA lamented.

The issue has been raised several times in the assembly including the recent budget session.
