"The Central government gets very angry if students in higher education institutes go a little beyond education and involve themselves in political activities," DMK President M Karunanidhi said.
To a question in party organ 'Murasoli' that whether the BJP government was "excessively interfering in student's freedom of expression," he said "it seems so" due to the former's recent activities.
The DMK chief recalled the death of research scholar Rohit Vemula of Hyderabad Central University and alleged that he took the extreme step of committing suicide following his protest against the Central government and his financial assistance being stopped.
Referring to Kumar's arrest for participating in a meeting in connection with the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, Karunanidhi said a big question was
"After heavy opposition (against Government action), Centre is saying that there are terror links to Kumar's meeting. But it declines to show any proof. Where will this problem lead to," he said.
