India and Nepal have discussed issues related to flooding and inundation near the Gandak project area at a joint committee meeting.
The seventh meeting of the Nepal- India Joint Committee on Kosi and Gandak Projects (JCKGP) was held here from November 11-12.
Many issues of mutual interest including the flooding and inundation in the Gandak project area were discussed during the meeting, an Indian Embassy statement said.
The Indian delegation was represented by Dipak Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Water Resources Department of Bihar Government while Madhav Belbase, Director General in the Department of Irrigation of Nepal's Ministry of Irrigation led the Nepalese delegation during the meeting.
Both sides deliberated on the issues of erosion of embankment areas upstream as well as downstream of the Koshi Barrage and flooding and inundation of the areas around the Gandak Project Area, the release said.
The two sides also agreed to form a sub-committee to make recommendations on the outstanding issues with respect to the Gandak Project, it said.
The Gandak Project at Valmikinagar (Bhainsaloton), intercepts water of a catchment, which lies partly in Nepal and partly in India.
The committee emphasised on the need to meet more frequently and they have decided to convene the next meeting in April-May next year.
