Hamm, 44, and Westfeldt, 45, announced their decision to split after 18 years together earlier this month, reported Us magazine.
"It's a tough time for (both of them)," Weiner said on the sidelines of the 2015 Creative Arts Emmys held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
"I know both of them very well. They are both really gifted artists and it's rough. But it's also - it was a very long relationship."
The pair first began dating in 1997 after meeting at the party of a mutual friend. They lived together for many years but never married.
