The 'Kings of Summer' director is in line to helm the Sony Pictures' video game adaptation, reported Deadline.
The film will star series protagonist Solid Snake, although details of the plot remain under wraps.
Sony production president Avi Arad ('The Amazing Spider-Man 2', 'Fantastic Four') will produce the movie.
'The Kings of Summer' was Vogt-Roberts's feature debut. He has also directed a series of Funny or Die videos as well as Nick Offerman: American Ham.
'Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes' - the latest instalment in Konami's long-running series - was released in March.
