Joseph Plappallil J, Chairman and Managing Director of New Delhi-based Agriculture Insurance Corporation (AIC), has been given the additional charge as CMD of National Insurance Company (NIC).
Joseph will serve as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Kolkata-based state-owned non-life insurance firm for three months from the day he assumes charge. He is likely to take up the new assignment early next week.
When contacted by PTI today, Joseph confirmed having received a letter from the Union Finance Ministry appointing him as CMD of NIC.
The insurance industry veteran said he will serve in the new post for three months. He declined to comment anything further, saying he was yet to take up the assignment.
The appointment comes after the Government transferred
Officiating CMD of NIC, AV Girija Kumar, as General Manager of United India Insurance in Chennai sometime back.
Joseph took over the top post at AIC on October 18, 2012, replacing Milind Anna Kharat, who is currently serving as Chairman and Managing Director of United India Insurance in Chennai.
Joseph, a graduate in business management, has 33 years of experience in the general insurance domain. He started his career with General Insurance Corporation of India as a trainee officer in 1979 and worked with New India Assurance Company from 1980 onwards in various capacities until 2009.
