A journalists' body has asked All India Radio (AIR) to reconsider its reported move to stop hiring radio jockeys who are on contract and above the age of 35 years for its FM Gold and Rainbow channels.
In a statement here, the Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) called upon Prasar Bharati to "reconsider its ill-advised" move against vulnerable professional employees who bring both maturity and experience to the job.
"The employees of All India Radio's FM Gold and Rainbow channels, who are at immediate threat, must be protected from this arbitrary ceiling on their employment," DUJ said.
It further stated that, as a public sector employer, Prasar Bharati should set good labour standards instead of resorting to awarding contractual employment and discriminating against those who had served it loyally over the years.
Prasar Bharati has reportedly directed AIR to not hire for its FM Gold and Rainbow channels radio jockeys above the age of 35 years. The reported move would lead to job loss for many radio jockeys who are presently working for these channels.
