Journos protest against Criminal ordinance in Jaipur

Journalists today held a protest wearing black arm bands against a controversial bill of the Rajasthan government, which seeks to protect public servants and judges from prosecution without its prior sanction.
The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill was tabled in the Assembly by Home Minister Gulabchand Kataria yesterday to replace an ordinance promulgated on September 7.
Hundreds of journalists took out a protest march from the Pink City's press club to the assembly. They were detained near the Vidhan Sabha building and dispersed later.
Calling the ordinance as 'Kala kanoon', Press Club President L L Sharma said, "We are against the ordinance. The government should withdraw it.

The controversial bill also has the provision for barring the media from publishingany details identifying an accused till the government gives its nod for investigation and its violationwould call for two years imprisonment.
