JU student drowns in pond

A first year accountancy honours student of Jadavpur University today died of drowning in a pond at Patuli in the southern part of the city, police said.
Shakil Deb Sharma drowned in the waterbody when a ball fell into the waters, the said.
Sharma, a resident of Siliguri's Pradhanagar, was staying as a paying guest in nearby Baghajatin area, police added.
Asked whether it was a case of suicide, a senior officer of local police said, "We are looking into the case. We are still not sure... We are also checking whether the person was drunk or not."
Shakil's fished out body has been sent for post mortem.
