Voicing special concern about girls' toilets in schools, Jung said, "The doors of the toilets must have proper bolts and the toilets must be properly functional by the time the schools reopen."
During a review meeting, Jung today directed the Education department to run a special drive this summer to ensure that the upkeep of toilets and school premises is improved once the schools reopen.
He also directed the Department to closely monitor the mid-day meal served to children during the summer months and ensure that highest standards of quality are met.
There are 7000 schools in Delhi apart from 216 aided schools and 16 lakh students are studying in these schools. One lakh students are added every year.
Secretary (Education) while giving a presentation said that 7.2 lakh students are provided mid-day meal facilities. The Education Department is facing shortage of 2.5 lakh desks and 1.6 lakh desks are likely to be procured shortly.
Jung emphasised on continuous up-gradation of syllabi and summer training for teachers so that there is constant upgradation of knowledge of teachers to ensure good quality of teaching in schools.
