Jamshedpur Utility and Services Company Limited (Jusco), a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Steel, has developed a scheme to treat the starch water conforming to Pollution Control Board (PCB) norms.
Suresh Kumar, VP (Shared Services), Tata Steel, inaugurated the Treatment Plant today near the Central Kitchen inside Tata Steel Work in the presence of senior officials of Jusco including the Managing Director Ashish Mathur, Capt D Mishra, General Manager, Sanjeev Kumar Jha, DGM (Water Management).
According to a press release issued by Jusco, the Central Kitchen of Tata Steel prepare various kinds of food and snacks centrally and distribute to different canteens. Daily approximately 800 kg rice is cooked and the starch water (approximately 800 litres) is disposed into the common drain of the kitchen.
JUSCO has developed a suitable scheme to treat the starch water conforming to PCB norms and the treated water will be used for floor cleaning of the canteen, the release said.
About the process, it stated that the main process considered is aerobic bio-reaction followed by sedimentation and micro filtration. The final treated water will be chlorinated and pass through activated carbon filter to eliminate any colour or odour from the treated water.
JUSCO has already been offered a similar kind of project at Puri Jagannath Temple to treat the starch water disposed from temple kitchen after preparation of the Mahaprashad.
