'Take Back the Night' hitmaker Timberlake has five nods for trophies at the ceremony, set to take place at Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome on November 10, for Best Male, Best Live, Best Video for 'Mirrors', Best US Act and Best Look.
Rapper Macklemore and producing partner Lewis match Timberlake with nominations in the Best New, Best Hip Hop and Best World Stage categories, as well as competing against him for Best US Act.
They are also nominated in the prestigious Best Song section for their huge hit 'Thrift Shop'.
Gaga and Cyrus will go head-to-head for the Best Female title and, alongside Thicke, all three will compete for the coveted title of Best Video.
With both Cyrus and Thicke expected to attend, it is rumoured they could recreate their performance at the US version of the show, the MTV Video Music Awards, last month.
