A DMK member of Rajya Sabha today condemned the hurling of crude bombs at the office of a Tamil news channel in Chennai, ruing that it had happened in a state which vouched for freedom of expression.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Upper House, Kanimozhi said mediapersons and their families were being threatened and referred to a number of such incidents in the recent past.
AIADMK MPs rose to protest the DMK member's remarks following which Kanimozhi said she was not raising anything against Tamil Nadu government.
"This is not against Tamil Nadu government...This is a social issue. This (attack) is against freedom of expression," she said, referring to Tamil icon Periyar's lofty views about freedom of expression.
Suspected members of a fringe right-wing outfit today threw crude bombs at the local office of a popular Tamil TV news channel over a proposed interactive show on 'Thaali' (Mangal Sutra), drawing widespread condemnation from media bodies and political parties.
