Two days after clashes broke out between two communities over alleged desecration of a religious poster, things are returning to normal in the district.
The local markets, government as well as private schools and colleges, which were closed after the clash, reopened today, with an exception of four affected areas -Chamanganj, Fazalganj, Nuabasta, Sishamau, DM Kaushalraj Sharma said.
No untoward incident was reported from the city, but section 144 still prevails, he said.
As a safety measure, the police and paramilitary forces were keeping a strict vigil in the four affected, the DM said.
The Bhannapurwa area, where two policemen who were on patrol were injured when a mob had opened fire at them on Saturday, is especially under strict police protection, the DM said.
On Saturday, a clash had broken out between two communities over alleged disrespect to a religious poster, following which police had resorted to lathicharge to bring situation under control.
Members of two communities had engaged in a scuffle after poster of a Goddess was found on the ground at Darshanpurwa under Fazalganj police station here.
As many as 2550 people, including women, were booked at various police stains in this connection.
