The 56-year-old actress faced a lot of backlash on social media after she shared the picture, which was a part of her photoshoot with famed photographer Tyler Shields, on Twitter yesterday.
Griffin took to Twitter, where she posted a 31-second video message, she captioned as, "I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong."
In the clip, the actress issued an apology saying that she crossed the line as a comic.
"I'm just now seeing the reaction on these images... The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people, it wasn't funny, I get it."
She continued, "I have made a lot of mistakes in my career. I will continue. (I'm) gonna ask the photographer to take down the image..."
The picture was met with strong reactions by personalities like Donald Trump Jr, Chelsea Clinton and actress Debra Messing, who condemned the photo unanimously.
