A day before demitting the office, Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna today appealed policemen to have better coordination with the public as they "cannot guard every nook and corner of the city".
The Governor said that to keep control on city's crime rate, the police needs to have better coordination with the public.
"If police wants to get information about any suspected activity, they need to have better coordination with the common people because even if you have a 80,000 strong force, you cannot guard every nook and corner of the city," he said.
Khanna was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a residential complex for the Delhi Police at Dheerpur here today.
This was Khanna's last official engagement before demitting office.
Najeeb Jung, the newly-appointed lieutenant governor will take the charge tomorrow.
Khanna also appealed the policemen to follow the path of honesty.
"You have to live in these houses built with cement and bricks and if you want your body to be healthy you would have to tie yourself in the rules of religion.
"Not a penny beyond your legal means should come into your house, because with such income, people living even in palaces fall sick and reach such condition that even a marble building is of no use to them," said Khanna.
Khanna further said, "What I mean to say is that, when you come to live in this grand colony you should make a commitment to yourself of keeping your thoughts and behaviour as per your religion and not dare to cross them. Don't encroach on other's right.
