'Gossip Girl' star Kelly Rutherford filed for bankruptcy last month after she accumulated millions in debt as she continues to fight for the custody of her two kids.
Rutherford claimed she had accumulated debts of almost USD 2 million dollars, most of which were due to USD 1.5 million in legal expenses she had incurred over the course of the ongoing child custody battle against her former husband Daniel Giersch, reported Aceshowbiz.
The 90s prime time soap 'Melrose Place' actress says her liabilities include USD 350,000 in unpaid taxes and USD 25,251 in American Express credit card charges. Her income has also gone down from hundreds of thousands from her acting job in TV to a reported current monthly income of USD 1,279.
Rutherford and Giersch, a German entrepreneur, have engaged in a costly custody battle over their two young kids ever since their divorce in 2010.
In September last year, a judge ruled that the children would live in France with their father, who is banned from returning to the US due to a revoked visa, leaving Rutherford with no choice but to travel back and forth if she wanted to see her kids.
Rutherford is fighting for her children to be returned to the US. She has also formally asked the court to make Giersch shoulder the legal expenses she had acquired in the process.
