Kerala Governor Sathasivam today decided to remove the red beacon from his official car.
In tune with the decision of the central government, the beacon lights of all vehicles of Raj Bhavan, including that of the Governor, have been removed as per the directions of the governor, a statement said.
State Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac, Water Resources Minister Mathew P Thomas and Education Minister C Ravindranath, removed the beacon lights from their official vehicles.
Opposition leader in the state assembly, Ramesh Chennithala, also has stopped using the beacon light. The Union Cabinet had yesterday decided to go in for a ban on red beacon from May 1 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying these symbols were out of touch with the spirit of new India.
