Kerala House row: Hindu Sena chief arrested

Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta was arrested by police this evening on an apprehension of causing a breach of peace and tranquillity, two days after his complaint about beef being served at Kerala House here sparked a row.
"Gupta has been arrested under Sections 107/151 CrPC in the evening. He was taken to RML Hospital for a medical examination before his arrest as per protocol," said DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal.
Also today, Delhi top cop BS Bassi said he has submitted a report to the Union Home Ministry regarding the Kerala House incident but refrained from disclosing the details.

Police had detained Gupta around 11 AM today and subjected him to intensive questioning in connection with his alleged false complaint that beef was being served at the Kerala House canteen. After arrest, Gupta was produced before a court, said a senior official.
The development comes two days after Delhi Police entered the Kerala House acting on the complaint in an episode which triggered a major row and saw a miffed Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy writing to the prime minister seeking action against those responsible.
Chandy had condemned the "raid" as "highly objectionable" even as Delhi Police and the Centre came under attack from chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee.

Bassi had yesterday said that police were contemplating action against Gupta under IPC Section 182 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person).
He had added that the PCR call regarding the beef complaint was given priority because it had the potential to disrupt harmony between communities and could have had "disastrous consequences", especially because of the "past record" of Gupta, national president of Hindu Sena.
"The caller was already in police's notice because of his past record," Bassi had said, adding that the officials deployed outside Kerala House to keep a watch were instructed to take preventive action in case Gupta and his associates were caught doing any "mischief".
