Noting that the IT Act was brought with a view to effectively check cyber crimes, Kerala government today said the Supreme Court decision striking down Section 66(A) of the Act would adversely affect several cases registered in the state.
"There are several cases in Kerala registered under the law and the court decision will affect them," state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala told reporters here today.
The government would seek legal advise of the Advocate General on how to proceed further in these cases, he said.
He also said there was concern that it might encourage cyber related crimes.
"The cyber law was brought with a view to effectively check cyber crimes," he said, adding "we have to look into the ramifications of the (court) order."
In a landmark judgement upholding freedom of expression, Supreme Court today struck down the section which provides the power to arrest a person for posting allegedly "offensive" content on websites.
