A Khasi tribal council in Meghalaya on Thursday said it will summon the Geological Survey of India (GSI) to seek clarification on its mineral exploration activities in the areas under the jurisdiction of the council.
The previous executive council (EC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) had granted permission to the GSI for carrying out geological mapping, survey, mineral exploration and research activities in parts of the Khasi Hills region on February 15 last.
During the budget session of the council on Thursday, KHADC chief executive member Teinwell Dkhar told the House - "The EC will summon the GSI authority to seek clarification on the matter and if there is no clarity we will immediately cancel the NOC issued to the GSI."
