An association of Khap panchayat today came out in support of the five youths who had slapped and thrown ink at BJP leader Raj Kumar Saini at a public function.
'Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat' leaders have warned the state government of a state-wide agitation if the charges against the youths under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) are not dropped.
Subey Singh, a member of association said the youths were only trying to register their protest against Saini.
"He (Saini) was spewing venom against the Jat community without any reason and was trying to wedge communal tension. We are demanding reservation from the government, not from Saini," said Singh.
"By throwing ink at him, the youths were just registering their protest. They have been booked under section 307 which shows that the government wants to incite violence in Haryana for political gains," he added.
Singh said booking the youths under section 307 was an "unconstitutional" move by the state government.
"This is the first time somebody has been booked under this section just for throwing ink at somebody. Even the person who had thrown ink at Arvind Kejriwal was not booked under this section," he said.
Singh instead demanded booking the supporters of Saini "as they had beaten up the youths for doing what they did".
The Kurukshetra MP, who has been vocal against Jat reservation, was attacked at a public function on October 16 by the youths.
