Hyderabad-based Akhil Khuslani of Meco Euro International Racing team completed a rare hat-trick of wins in the Formula BMW India series in the JK Tyre National Racing Open Championship at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam near here today.
Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motor Sport of JK Tyres, said: "This is a record for the championship which is in its 17th edition and also a record for Kari Motor Sport Speedway as no single driver had won all the three races in a round in any event held at Coimbatore."
Veteran city driver Sarosh Hataria also scored a double in the Formula LBG 4 class. After winning the second race, Sarosh came up with a clean start and never looked back before crossing the finish line.
Ahkil showcased great determination and skills to prove his mettle.
"I am happy to start the series on a great note and hope I will be able to maintain the same attitude and grit to win the series, which is making its debut in India at domestic levels. Things worked out to plan from the practice session to qualifying and in the two races that followed," Akhil said.
On the initiative of offering free seat to the drivers and the worthiness of the car, Akhil said: "I am happy to have got a chance to explore the car as this event being the first of the series. Now I am confident of handling the car as its worthiness and reliability are indisputably sound."
Akhil finished the race 14.260 seconds ahead Chitesh Sachin Mandody of Kholapur (Maharashtra) and a further 3.216 seconds ahead of third-placed Akhil Rubindra of Bangalore.
Akhil returned a best lap time of 1:05.919 seconds.
Akhil maintained his form and strategy to win the third race too in 16:47.849 seconds. Vishnu Prasad and Arjun Maini of Bangalore finished second and third respectively.
Earlier in the day, Hatoria's victory in the Formula LGB 4 was notable for the close encounter between the winner and Prasad, who is known for his dare devilry on tracks.
