Balwant Singh alias Bobby (37), the key accused in the kidnapping of Aditya Singla (27), was arrested in a raid, following a tip-off, from his house in Amin village, about 8 km from here, Superintendent of Police Simmardeep Singh said.
Balwant works as an assistant lineman at the power house in Kalram village in Karnal district, the SP said.
During interrogation, Balwant confessed that he roped in Kamal Saini of Kurukshetra and Anil Mittal, Sukhbir Kala of Karnal in the kidnapping plan with an aim to become "rich overnight," the SP said.
The kidnappers used two cars for the purpose. Aditya was kidnapped in a black car owned by Mittal and a white car owned by Kala was following it as a spare vehicle in case of any breakdown, the SP added.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crore for Aditya's release.
Police had even conducted raid at a place between Madhuban and Karnal on August 25 where the ransom money of Rs 2 crore was paid. However, abductors managed to escape with the money, releasing Aditya who returned home on August 30.
