Sub-divisional judicial magistrate Anup Swarup Seth remanded Rashmi Ranjan Khatua in 14 days judicial custody after rejecting his bail application.
Khatua, who was on the run, came to the court accompanied by his lawyer and surrendered. He was immediately handed over to the city police and later sent to Choudwar jail.
With Khatua in custody, the number of persons arrested by Cuttack city police for the two cases of illegal kidney sale went up to seven, including a woman.
While six of them, including Khatua, were in Choudwar jail here, the arrested director of a Vishakhapatnam-based private hospital was yet to be brought here as he was under treatment in a Hyderabad hospital.
But after the removal, they were not paid the promised amount.
