MACT Presiding Officer Manish Gupta directed United India Insurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending truck, to pay Rs 11,21,770 to the wife and two children of Satish Kumar Katne, who suffered fatal injuries after the offending truck hit him in April 2010.
"I award a compensation of Rs 11,21,770, including interim award of Rs 50,000...In favour of the petitioners (deceased's kin) and against the respondents (insurance firm, driver and owner of the truck)," the tribunal said, adding that the "allegations are deemed to be true and correct".
Katne, a driver himself, was hit by the offending truck truck while he got down to check the air pressure in one of the rear tyres of his truck on GT Road, Madanpur, Aurangabad.
The petitioners had claimed Rs 10 lakh, besides Rs 50,000 interim compensation.
