Police today arrested the suspected kingpin of three train robberies committed in the past few months on the Agra-Delhi route of North central Railway.
"He was arrested from platform no 7 of Mathura Junction today after a brief encounter while he was planning to commit some crime," a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said.
The accused, Vishal alias Kanhaiya alias Pandit, a resident of Jahangirpuri in Delhi, was carrying a reward of Rs 12,000 on his arrest.
A country-made pistol, live cartridges and Rs 3,000 in cash have been recovered from his possession, police said.
He has confessed to committing robberies on Gondwana Express, Southern Express and Tamilnadu Express trains.
"On Gondwana Express, the wife of Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister was robbed of ornaments and cash," GRP Inspector Pankaj Lavania said today, adding "half-a-dozen members of the gang have already been arrested".
