Kiran Bedi calls for joint fight against dengue

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today appealed to all sections of people in the union territory to ensure that precautionary measures are taken against dengue fever.
Talking to reporters here after holding a meeting with officials of various departments including Health and Local Administration, she said that the medical reports said that there was a 700 per cent rise since last year in the incidence of dengue in Puducherry.
Hospitals including the Centrally administered JIPMER here are overflowing with patients.
The government hospitals here were running short of medicines.
Additional wards were opened to accommodate the people for treatment of fever cases.
Bedi said she had asked the Finance Secretary V Candavlou to sanction adequate funds to the government hospitals and also the requisite machinery so that nothing should be left wanting to carry out anti dengue measures.
Medical Superintendent of Indira Gandhi Government Hospital and Research Institute Mohan Kumar said of the 1200 cases of fever reported at the general hospital, 261 patients tested positive for dengue in August.
He said that during September out of 2000 patients who were diagnosed at the government hospital 367 patients tested positive for dengue.
He said that despite rise in number of patients the hospital authorities was addressing the cases.
