With Jammu and Kashmir government under attack over Kishtwar violence, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah today hit back at BJP by reminding it about 2002 Gujarat riots.
"In 2002, Gujarat did not allow people...To come to Ahmedabad. It is not a property of Modi," he said in Rajya Sabha during an impromtu discussion on situation in violence- hit Jammu and Kashmir.
The Union Minister was responding to BJP leader Arun Jaitely who alleged that the state government had failed to take appropriate measures to control the violence which led to gutting of hundreds of shops and injuries to several people.
While initiating the discussion, Jaitely, who was not allowed to go to Kishtwar, said: "Jammu and Kashmir is not personal property of one family."
Jaitley, who is Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House, was questioning as to why he was stopped at the Jammu airport.
He said India is not a "banana republic" where an indefinite order is issued banning a person from entering Jammu region under Section 144.
Jaitley sought to know if the government was trying to impose censorship by not allowing him and other leaders to visit the area.
