Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will hold public screenings of iconic films at select city venues every Sunday in the run-up to the 20th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in December.
KSCA chairman T Rajivnath will inaugurate the first viewing at Manaveeyam Veedhi on October 4 at 6:30 PM. Vittorio de Sica's Italian neo-realist classic, "The Bicycle Thieves", will be the first movie screened.
It will be the first time in IFFK's history that Manaveeyam, the bustling cultural hub, hosts works of legendary filmmakers. KSCA has partnered with the street's Manaveeyam Theruvorakootam collective to showcase the cinematic geniuses for a wider domestic audience.
In addition, a selection of short films and documentaries will be shown at venues across the city to increase viewer exposure and appreciation for such works. To help carry their powerful messages across to a local viewership, foreign language movies will feature Malayalam subtitles.
"We are planning to screen censored copies of movies participating in the 20th edition of IFFK at Manaveeyam to reach out to more people and to make sure our public is part of this festival", said KSCA secretary, Rajendran Nair.
The public screenings will run over a two-month period, which culminates with the launch of Kerala's premier film festival on December 4 and will run upto December 11.
