The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) today filed an affidavit in the High Court, challenging the government's decision to grant temporary permit to private operators to run superfast buses.
The affidavit was in response to a petition filed by Kerala state Bus Passengers Association questioning the government's decision.
KSRTC claimed they have ample resources to operate long- distance services. They had decided to purchase 1,290 new buses, of which 500 are for fast passenger buses and remaining for higher category services. They operate 5,965 schedules utilising 6166 buses throughout the state and to neighbouring states, the affidavit said.
It pointed out that the daily ticket collection was Rs 482 lakh.
They also alleged private operators ply services at timings profitable to them, discarding students while KSRTC saves people from exploitation.
