The power project, located in Tamil Nadu, has two units of 1,000 MW generation capacity each.
"Unit 1 has achieved full power (1,000 MW) on June 7, 2014. Unit 2 is expected to be commissioned shortly," Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
The power to be produced from the plant has been allocated to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry. There would be an unallocated quota of 300 MW.
Goyal is also in charge of Coal as well as New and Renewable Energy Ministries.
"The execution of UMPP at Sarguja (Chhattisgarh) is dependent upon allocation of coal block.
"In respect of the other two UMPPs in Odisha and Tamil Nadu, the request for proposal has already been issued. Each project has a capacity of 4,000 MW," Goyal noted.
