"L&T was awarded this contract, after Hindustan construction company (HCC) failed to abide by the tender condition. After failure of HCC, five companies including L&T bid for it after inviting tenders for this project," P R Patelia, chief general manager, NHAI, told PTI here.
The total cost of the project, including construction of the bridge is Rs 379 crore, he added.
L&T has earlier on February28 said in a BSE filing that "a major EPC order has been received from National Highways Authority of India for construction of a new four lane extra dosed heavy bridge across the Narmada and six laning of a portion of Vadodara-Surat section of NH-8 in Gujarat."
Later, NHAI decided to construct it from its own fund and that is why the cost of the project has gone down, Patelia said.
