Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro today said it has won Rs 5,100 crore order for setting up a 1,320 MW thermal power plant in Madhya Pradesh.

"Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a turnkey order for setting up a 2x660 MW thermal power project on a complete Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) basis from the state utility MP Power Generating Company Ltd," L&T said in a statement.

"Valued over Rs 5,100 crore, the project order covers design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of two coal-fired thermal units of 660 MW each with supercritical (energy efficient and environment friendly) parameters," the statement said.

The project is located in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

"The first unit of Stage-I of Shree Singaji thermal power project had recently gone commercial and was operating satisfactorily. The awarding of the Stage-II affirms L&T's credentials in EPC execution of power plants under critical schedules," Shailendra Roy, Whole-time Director (Power, Minerals & Metals) L&T said in the statement.

L&T has established joint ventures with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Japan for manufacture of supercritical boilers and turbines at its complex in Hazira, Gujarat.

In the supercritical segment, L&T has also set up manufacturing capabilities in Hazira for power plant auxiliaries including high pressure piping, coal pulverisers, fans, air preheaters, feed-water heaters and condensers.

Shares of L&T were trading 0.65% up at Rs 1,599.40 on the BSE.
