A labourer was electrocuted and another sustained injuries allegedly due to sudden restoration of current while they were repairing power supply line at Budshah Bridge here.
"Mushtaq Ahmad died on the spot while another was injured after suffering electric shock," a police official said.
The body of the deceased labourer was hanging from the pole for nearly two hours before Fire brigade personnel removed it.
According to locals, the labourers, who were repairing the supply lines, were electrocuted due negligence of the regular staffers of the Power Development Department.
"How come the electric current was restored when these labourers were still carrying out the repairs," Bashir Ahmad, a local resident of nearby Maisuma locality, said.
The incident led to massive traffic jam in the City Centre including Lal Chowk and Jehangir Chowk areas as hundreds of people assembled at the spot.
Meanwhile, Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Farooq Ahmed Lone has directed Assistant Commissioner Sajad Qadri to enquire into the alleged negligence of Power department which resulted in the death of the labourer.
"Action as per rules will be taken if anyone is found guilty of negligence in this incident," Lone said.
