Congress in the Rajya Sabha is working at cross purposes due to apparent lack of coordination among its top leaders overseeing the party's strategy in the Upper House, a Union Minister suggested today.
Citing an instance, a senior Minister who declined to be identified, said that the Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad and Deputy leader of the party Anand Sharma were not on the same page on the issue to be pursued today.
Azad had given notice for a calling attention on the reported move of the Election Commission to facilitate voting by Non-resident Indians (NRIs) in the future elections in the country through either proxy voting or e-postal ballot and the risks involved there in.
However, Sharma gave another notice for suspension of Question Hour to discuss Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks in Germany and Canada alleging that the Prime Minister lowered the prestige and dignity of the country.
"LoP says there is an urgent matter, which calls for the attention of the government. On the one hand the LoP says discuss because something is urgent, on the other his Deputy raises some other issue," the minister said.
The issue raised by Sharma had led to three adjournments in the House and wiped out Question Hour.
The NDA does not have a majority in the Upper House, where the Opposition led by the Congress is in a commanding position.
